StockIt: your pantry, actually counted.

A grocery app that earns its keep by removing typing. Scan a barcode or photograph a receipt, and the pantry updates itself — then the shopping list writes itself from what ran out.

What it does

  • Reads your receipt on the phone. Photograph it and the text is recognised on the device, then parsed against a database of Canadian grocery shorthand — the cryptic abbreviations printed on real receipts.
  • Scans barcodes. A scan looks the product up and adds it to the pantry, no typing.
  • Tracks stocked, low and out. The pantry is a running count, not a checklist you rewrite each week.
  • Writes the shopping list for you. Anything low or out lands on the list, which arrives as a weekend reminder.
  • Remembers what things cost. Every scanned receipt builds price history per item, per store — and a shared layer lets shoppers see recent prices others paid nearby.
  • Plans meals from what you own. Meal plans and ideas are drawn from what is actually in the pantry.

How it's built

  • No cloud AI, by design. Receipt text recognition runs entirely on the phone, so scanning costs nothing per use and receipts never leave the device for a third-party service.
  • Offline-first. Pantry and list live on the device in local storage and SQLite; the app is fully usable with no signal.
  • Shared prices, anonymously. A small hosted database holds community price reports, kept separate from anything personal.
  • A manual path for every automatic one. When a receipt scan or parse fails, the entry flow catches it rather than losing the item.

Getting help

Email [email protected] with a bug, a question or a receipt the scanner misread. A photo of the receipt line that came out wrong is the fastest way to get it fixed, since the shorthand database grows from exactly those cases.

Your data

StockIt has no account and no sign-in. Your pantry, shopping list, meal plans and receipt photos stay on your device; receipts are read on the phone, not uploaded. The only things that leave are a barcode you scan and an anonymous price report — never your name, email or receipt image.
